Introducing Summer 2023 Shopify Editions! Shopify Editions is a biannual digital experience, featuring the latest launches, updates and enhancements to the Shopify platform. We’re always amazed by the speed of these innovations and Shopify’s continuous commitment to innovation within the ecommerce space. This time around, Editions revolves around the theme:
The theme reflects the current innovations in artificial intelligence: Shopify considers this to be the biggest catalyst for growth in society today. With these advancements in AI, new possibilities in ecommerce emerge every day, giving you even more opportunities to outplay your competition. Shopify is accelerating the future of ecommerce, and we can’t wait to be a part of it.
Navigating through the list might require some time and effort, since there are 100+ updates during each Shopify Editions. Therefore we’ll give you a run down of the updates with the most impact on your ecommerce business. Let’s go!
With the rise of AI technology, Shopify has created Shopify Magic: a variety of free features across the Shopify platform that, based on AI and your store data, help you streamline your day-to-day tasks and make you work smarter, not harder.
Before the launch of Shopify Editions Summer 2023, Shopify dropped Sidekick, your ecommerce assistant that utilizes AI technology and your Shopify data, offering personalized support within your Shopify store. Sidekick has learned everything about Shopify and your store, making it a great companion in your day-to-day tasks.
During Shopify Editions Winter ‘23, Shopify already promised new bundle functionalities. Bundling your products is a great way to increase average order value, and during this Shopify Editions, Glen Coates introduced the native Shopify Bundles App. This one is great for fixed bundles. Check out the bundles apps in the Shopify app store for more advanced bundle capabilities like mix-and-match, or build a custom bundle using the Bundles API (exclusive to Shopify Plus).
Shopify consulted BCG, one of the Big 3 global consulting firms, to conduct a study on ecommerce checkouts in the industry. The result is not surprising: Shopify’s checkout is considered the best in the world! We’ve written an article about the study, check it out here.
Along with the result mentioned above, the one page checkout update of the last Shopify Editions launch has taken the world by storm. We were thrilled to see Shopify go in this direction, because it opens up a whole world of possibilities in customization and optimisation of your checkout. We’ve written an in-depth article about this new functionality and how to migrate to the new checkout. Here are the most important updates to come:
Hooray! Shopify is launching a completely free Shopify Subscriptions App. This App integrates seamlessly with the Shopify Admin, making it an all-in-one platform for your subscriptions business. Your customers will be able to edit their subscription in the updated customer accounts, change payment information or shipping details, and more.
Besides ecommerce, Shopify offers capabilities catered towards B2B such as wholesale. During Shopify Editions Summer ‘23, new features have been presented that make it easier for customers to place orders, including volume pricing, quick order lists, more payment methods, credit card vaulting for checkout to draft and draft orders, and no-code customization options. With these options, you can create a completely different B2B product page, removing the hassle of a separate B2B Shopify store. In case you’d like to learn more about Shopify B2B, check out our article here.
You are probably familiar with Shopify Markets, the international selling tool within Shopify that helps you manage and expand your sales across new markets. If you use multiple markets or Shopify B2B, you can now adapt your store experience by editing sections and blocks specifically for these markets. Like mentioned above with Shopify B2B, this is a great way to customize pages to the needs of your market segments.
Shopify has updated the look and feel of the platform, making it more streamlined, functional and fast. With these changes, the data is more clear and interactivity with the platform is more pleasurable. They’ve also upgraded the search function.
Nowadays, most online purchases are completed via mobile devices. Setting up a mobile app for your brand is a win-win situation for you and your customers! Within Shopify, you can set up your own app easily with Shop App. Within a couple of clicks, your Shop Store can be customized with rich media headers, customizable collections, categories and navigation, all in line with the branding of your Shopify store.
With Shopify Collective, you can add products of other brands to your store. You can search for complementary products to the ones you sell, making your product catalog more diverse, and creating a new revenue stream by earning margins from these sales. What used to take hours to import these products to your store, now can be done in just a couple of minutes.
Integrate your Shopify product catalog with marketplaces like Amazon, Walmart, eBay and Etsy, all from the Shopify Connect App. This is a great way to have more eyes on your products and expand your reach.
That’s all folks! Of course these were not all the updates, but we consider these the most important with the highest returns for your Shopify platform.
