Zielinski & Rozen

A sensory Shopify experience

Zielinski & Rozen’s perfumes are forever the same, and forever new. Adapting to the endless cascade of looks, moods, and settings we go through. Founded in 1905 under the perfumer and alchemist Erez Zielinski Roze, on the ancient streets of Israel, the brand has evolved into a modern-day fragrance house that defies convention. But how do you translate something as intimate as scent into a performing ecommerce experience?

Ready to expand across Europe, Zielinski & Rozen needed a Shopify platform that could handle global traffic and imbue the same sensory story, no matter the market. That’s where Ask Phill came in, keep reading to discover the strategy.

Selling scent online: a fresh ecommerce challenge

The digital commerce landscape is more competitive than ever, and for an independent fragrance house like Zielinski & Rozen the stakes felt high and hard to climb. In a moment where omnichannel performance is vital - almost to the product degree, a digital homebase was high on the agenda for the century-old brand.

To face the challenge head on, we advised a migration from Ecwid to Shopify - a custom rebuild to optimise treasured product archives and ensure every creative investment delivers real value. It was up to us to…

  1. Head a Shopify-native approach, elevated with custom code

  2. Support a non-technical client team, leading a full frontend data restructure

  3. Translate business needs into technical solutions

  4. Balance creativity and functionality, delivering a user-centered platform that meets every stakeholder’s expectations.

The build: a Shopify powered transformation

Shopify is our battleground, and we thrive on pushing its limits. Working in close collaboration with Numbered, we engineered a site that merges aesthetics with technical firepower, creating an experience as refined as Zielinski & Rozen’s fragrances.

Content modelling for a sensory digital experience

Perfume is deeply personal. It unfolds in layers, just like UX. To mirror that complexity online, we produced a highly-specific content modelling structure that allows the brand’s narrative to shine. The site seamlessly guides users through scent profiles, ingredients, and heritage - turning product discovery into an immersive journey rather than a transactional split decision.

Flawless migration with precision

Migrating from Ecwid meant carefully handling historical order data and ensuring a smooth transition for existing customers. Following an exhaustive migration list, every SKU, every customer interaction, and every order detail had to be mapped perfectly onto Shopify.

Precision in code: a series UX strategies

We brought Numbered’s vision to life through precise development, implementing custom-coded features that make the site feel dynamic and fresh with every scroll:

  • Hand-drawn animations: when a user’s cursor hovers over page elements, subtle hand-drawn animations come to life, reinforcing the brand’s handcrafted feel. Precise  code implementation enhances engagement without compromising performance.

  • Interactive vinyl easter egg: a nod to the brand’s appreciation for storytelling, we built a hidden gem into the homepage: click the vinyl record, and it starts spinning, playing music - a feature that brings the best of both worlds.

  • Centrally-placed scrolling banner: a striking, animated text banner commands attention in the center of the homepage, dynamically pulling users deeper into the brand experience.

  • Micro-animation wishlist feature: subtle yet powerful addition that makes saving favorite products feel intuitive and tactile.

Following the principles of Hick's UX Law, every interaction is designed to minimise cognitive load by centering the touch target, a strategy in engagement and customer journey follow-through.

Power moves: automation & integrations

The players driving an enriched user-experience:

  • Klaviyo – Integrated the advanced email marketing tool for personalised customer engagement.

  • StoreMapper – Helping customers find physical retail locations with ease.

  • Iubenda – Ensuring compliance and transparency in data policies.

  • Pondres – A fulfillment powerhouse with an open API connection to Shopify, ensuring streamlined logistics.

  • Conneo Flow – The crucial middleware that syncs inventory, orders, and fulfillment in real-time.

  • Exact Online – A seamless integration for finance and accounting, keeping operations running smoothly.

It’s a stack that works to scale. Select integrations foster retention and manage due diligence, promising a memorable and compliant CX.

Backend reliability and scalability

Shopify Plus provides the scalability necessary to accommodate future growth. With features like automatic scaling, cloud hosting, and robust data protection, we ensured the website could handle increased traffic, product launches, and seasonal spikes without issue. Additionally, Shopify's built-in analytics tools provide ongoing insights into user behavior, enabling Zielinski & Rozen to optimise their marketing strategies and product offerings.

The result: a strategic growth engine, worthy of the brand
